Otter: Ecology & Field Sign

The Eurasian Otter has made an amazing recovery over the last 40 years, from near extinction to a strong recovering population. The South West of England has always been a stronghold for this species, and today there are several sites in Gloucestershire where Otters are regularly seen.

Join us for a day learning about this secretive, fun and social animal, including its ecology, how to recognise field signs such as spraint (poo), foot prints, runs, holts, and ultimately how to watch and photograph them with minimum impact to the wildlife. We will learn in the morning, then walk and search in the afternoon, allowing everyone to try their hand at finding Otter field signs.

We will be at one of several sites South of Gloucester, where Otters are seen relatively frequently, and if you have a camera and lens that is at least 400mm that you can hand hold (no tripods or monos) you may even get lucky enough to get some photos.

Details of the location will be provided on booking, along with further details of the timetable for the day, and what to bring with you. We will cover a few miles along the banks, practicing your new found skills, and the day goes ahead in all weather, as Otters love the rain!

Led by Craig Thomson, The Wildlife Nomad. Max 6 per group.

£100.00 per person.
